When Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in 1953, the entrance to Westminster Abbey was guarded by ten fantastical creatures, The Queen's Beasts. Produced by The Royal Mint, this collection of ten 1oz gold coins is inspired by the ancestral beasts of heraldry, myth and legend that watched over The Queen throughout her extraordinary reign.

The White Lion of Mortimer is the seventh design in The Queen’s Beasts Collection. Edward IV, the first of the Yorkist kings passed the lion on to Queen Elizabeth II and as such it became a symbol of her Yorkist heritage. The lion was also a favoured symbol of King George VI (Queen Elizabeth II’s father). The White Lion of Mortimer wears no crown, has a blue tongue and holds a Yorkist shield. As well as designing the lion, Jody Clark is also responsible for the design on the obverse of the coin; Her Late Majesty's fifth and final effigy.

Struck in 999.9 fine gold and exempt from Capital Gains Tax, The Queen's Beasts Gold collection is a popular choice amongst UK investors.
