2026 Sovereign Gold Coin - King Charles III
The 2026 Sovereign Gold Coin - King Charles III, is available for pre-sale, with stock expected from 19th November.
In 1526, Henry VIII instructed Cardinal Wolsey, the Lord Chancellor, to reform the values of English coins, which marked the introduction of 22 carat gold as The Sovereign’s striking alloy. Half a millennium later, the coin continues to be struck in 22 carat gold – the exacting standard first employed during the reign of one of Britain’s most notorious monarchs. Following the end of the rose gold era of The Sovereign in 2025, 2026 sees a return to tradition with a range of yellow gold bullion coins. Benedetto Pistrucci’s iconic portrayal of St George and the dragon once again graces the coin’s reverse.
Renowned for its reliability and accuracy, The Sovereign’s weight is guaranteed to five decimal places, making it the most tightly specified coin in the world. The 2026 Sovereign Gold Coin is also the most secure yet, as both sides have been embellished with unique security features.
Key Features
• Struck in traditional yellow gold – a significant departure from the rose gold of recent Sovereigns
• The reverse design is laden with new micro-text engraving that forms the inscription ‘HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE,’ the motto of the Order of the Garter
• A latent image security feature adorns the obverse, just beneath the official coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III, which alternates between the Tudor Crown, The King’s chosen royal cypher,
and the Tudor Rose, a symbol used by Henry VII
• The obverse also features a half-tone pattern, which serves as an additional security feature against counterfeiting
Due to its classification as legal tender, the 2026 Sovereign Gold Coin is exempt from Capital Gains Tax and therefore an especially popular choice among UK investors.
