Description
The Gold Sovereign for King George V was minted from 1911-1932. These British Gold Sovereigns were the last ones to be in circulation until the year Britain left the gold standard. They are the only coins to be minted at all six branches of the Royal Mint and the final coins to display mint marks.
The obverse of the King George V Sovereign Coin shows a portrait of George V facing to the left, and is a design made by artist Sir Edgar Bertram Mackennel. From 1929-32 a new portrait was used with a smaller head, this is known as the modified effigy. The reverse of the gold coin depicts Benedetto Pistrucci's traditional St George & Dragon design and the year of mintage is at the bottom of the coin.
The George V Sovereign Gold Coins are minted in 22-carat gold and are free from Capital Gains Tax, which makes them an attractive gold coin to hold for UK investors. Various years are available and the individual gold coins are delivered in our protective plastic flips. Should you be looking for a specific year, please send us a message and one of our experts will be in touch to discuss your requirements.
