Description
The one ounce American Eagle was first produced in 1986 by the United States Mint, and is also issued in fractional sizes of one-half, one-quarter, and one-tenth of a troy ounce.
On the earlier bullion eagles, from 1986 to 1991, the date is shown in Roman numerals and from 1992 it is in Arabic numerals. The obverse is inspired by the design for Augustus Saint - Gauden's celebrated $20 which features the standing figure of Liberty. The reverse which was designed by Miley Busiek, depicts an Eagle carrying an olive branch and protecting its nest.
The 1/2 oz American Eagle Gold Coin has a fineness of 916.7 translating to a gold content of 15.55174 grams with a face value of US $25.
