Description
The 2021 50g Cook Islands Bounty Coin Bar is struck in .9999 fine silver and the coin has a face value of 2.5 dollars.
The coin displays Queen Elizabeth II’s ‘fourth portrait’, designed by Ian Rank Broadley. Meanwhile the bar shows the HMS Bounty sailing to the left on a background of fine lines providing a wave-like illusion.
The infamous HMS Bounty was sold to the Royal Navy in May 1787 and commissioned on its first and final voyage from England to Tahiti to collect a cargo of breadfruit saplings for transportation to the West Indies. It was during this journey that a mutiny led by Fletcher Christian took place; he and his fellow mutineers then sailed through the Cook Islands searching the South Pacific for a safe haven, eventually settling in the Pitcairn Islands.
