The 1kg Australian Kookaburra Silver Coin is part of a series minted by the Perth Mint since 1990. These coins have become increasingly popular with collectors due to their beautiful designs that showcase the wildlife of Australia.

The coins in the series have legal tender status in Australia and are one of very few legal tender bullion silver coins to change their design every year, always featuring a kookaburra - a bird native to Australia, which is the largest member of the kingfisher family and the national bird of Australia. This and their limited annual mintage may, unlike for many other bullion coins, raise their numismatic value over the value of silver used. This coin is minted in 999.9 fine silver and features a detailed image of the Kookaburra on one side, and Queen Elizabeth II’s portrait by designer Ian Rank-Broadley on the obverse.
